RACE ROUTE INFORMATION:
In total the route goes through 28km of natural trails (Atalante, Pouziaris, Kalidonia, Persophoni, Aoratos, Almirolivado), 2km asphalt road and 12km through forest road. The start and finish will be at Troodos square at an altitude of 1724 m.
After the start of the race the runners will cross the main Troodos – Prodromos road heading north, then through the parking place and into the Atalante trail. After about 1,5km the runners will reach a forest road where they will make a right turn into this road ending up at the 2,5km on the main Troodos – Karvounas tarmac road.
Thereafter, the runners follow a slight downhill direction towards Karvounas, where in the 3rd km they will take a right turn following an old deserted road and after running for 2km it will lead to Almirolivado picnic site (5km of the race) and will take sharp right hand turn following the jeep track forest road down the valley. At the 6,5km they will come across the wooden sign pointing right towards the location of 450 years old giant tuniperous (aoratos) tree passing first through a stream (the water is potable) where runners will face their first challenge of a 500m vertical incline through a narrow trail to reach Troodos square again at the 7,5km (first refueling station and a check-point at an altitude of 1724m).
Thereafter runners will head sought on the asphalt main road Troodos – Platres and at the roundabout take the first exit to the felt and continue for about 200m until reaching the entrance of Persephone trail at the 8.2km. Keep on running through the trail for 2,4km before reaching the forest jeep track road at the 10,7km and take a right turn. Runners will follow this forest road for 2km and turn left at the t-junction (12,7km) heading sought towards Platres village. Continue for another 200m before turn left at the 12,9km (checkpoint with water) and down the forest road entering Pouziaris trail (runners will go though a circular route of 9,4km and come back to this point which will mark as the 22,2km). Many trails cross each other so look for the race markings and signs especially at the 14km (altitude 1560m) and stick to the right always going down the trail towards Platres (take caution as the trail becomes technical at some stages) until you reach the main road Limassol-Troodos and turn right on the asphalt road for a just few meters to come across the Psilo Dentro restaurant (and fish farm) at the 17,2km. The second refueling station and the first cut-off time checkpoint (2 hrs 30min) at an altitude of 1200m will be found there and the entrance to Kalidonia falls trail.
Then runners will enter the Kalidonia falls trail running along the homonym riverbed through a spectacular and refreshing course all the way to the top inclining 380m in just 3km before entering a jeep track forest road at the 20.2km (altitude 1580m). Take a right turn into the forest road that follows a slight uphill direction for 2km where runners will reach the 22,2km (same checkpoint with water as with 12,9km). Follow the jeep track forest road for 200m and now turn right at the 22,5km (same route through forest jeep track as when you were coming from Troodos square). Stay on the forest road for 2km until you enter Persephone trail again on your left side at the 24,5km. Exit the trail when you reach the tarmac road after 2,4km following the road for another 400m that leads back to Troodos square reaching the 27,3km in the parking area across from the starting point of the race. The third refueling station (same as the first station Troodos square) will be there and the second cut-off time check point of 6 hrs at an altitude of 1724m. The runners will make a left hand turn into the main Troodos – Prodromos road.
At the 28,4km the runners will turn left into forest road where in about 500m they will reach the entrance of Artemis trail. At the 30km (1852m altitude) the fourth refuelling station will be found followed by a 300m downhill asphalt road where after a left hand turn they will be running in parts of the Artemis pathway. In about 500m the runners will exit the trail turning left into the ski routes (connection piste1- Hera).
A steep incline will follow for 700m, which leads runners to the top of Olympus Mountain at an altitude of 1952m, Cyprus’ highest peak (top of the North Face piste ski lift). At this point the runners will be at the 31,5km of the race and will cross a checkpoint. A sudden downhill for about 500m will follow from North Face ski piste (take caution). The runners passing on their left the ski lift, will end up on an asphalt road (Troodos - Prodromos) and turn left where in 200m they will come across the entrance of Atalante trail on their left hand side.
At this point the fifth refuelling station will be found at the 32,2km mark. The route continues into Atalante trail for about 9,8 km up to the finish in Troodos square. The Atalante trail does not have significant altitude changes but it is very technical. At the 39km there is a natural spring with drinking water. At this point the runners will pass through the final checkpoint at an altitude of 1749m before reaching the finish line at Troodos square.
